Introduction

“… Making something special out of something simple and ordinary. By intuition and gut feeling. Seeing something happening and knowing I have to capture it without being able to explain why. Sometimes graphically and esthetically interesting, sometimes touching and with enormous depth. But always from my heart…”
These words express the photographic vision of Chantal Heusschen, born in 1972 and living in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. She has been fascinated by pictures since she was a young girl. But it took her until 2005 before she started to create her own. In the fall of that year she discovered the possibilities of photography and image editing software. Working with camera and Photoshop turned out to be a superb way for her to express her creativity.
Because she wanted to match creativity with the essential technical knowledge, Chantal attended several courses of photography and image editing. She’s also a member of ‘LEF' (= Lotard Experimentele Fotogroep) and she has studied photography at the Dutch ‘Fotovakschool’.
Chantal likes to photograph in color, but black and white photography turned out to be her true love. She feels that leaving out colors brings back the essence into a picture. It also ads emotion, ambiance and intensity. She loves to make narrative mood impressions in which she tries to capture and create a mood, symbolism or emotion.
But next to these monochrome mood impressions, Chantal also makes other work: sometimes she photographs colorful abstracts with organic shapes, and every so often she enjoys making minimalistic architectural pictures. And everything in-between. So you will also find portraits, landscapes and Photoshop creations in her portfolio. But in all the pictures she makes, Chantal tries to add her own vision and feeling and make more than just a registration. In addition she likes to play with focus, perspective, contrast, compositions and crops and that is what characterizes her photographic style.
